Grade B8 is manufactured from AISI 304 stainless steel, while Grade B8M is manufactured from AISI 316. The key difference shown on the MTC is the addition of 2.00% to 3.00% Molybdenum in B8M. This significantly enhances the fastener's resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it the preferred choice for marine, offshore, and harsh chemical environments.
Class 1 denotes that the fasteners have been carbide solution treated (annealed) but not intentionally strain-hardened. This provides excellent ductility and corrosion resistance, keeping the maximum hardness to 96 HRB. By contrast, Class 2 fasteners are strain-hardened to achieve higher tensile and yield strength, though they sacrifice some ductility in the process.
