Why use Grade B8MLN instead of standard B8M (316) or B8ML (316L)?

Standard B8ML (316L) has a restricted carbon limit (0.030% max) to prevent carbide precipitation and sensitization during welding in harsh chemical or marine environments. However, lower carbon naturally reduces the fastener's tensile and yield strength. Grade B8MLN solves this by adding Nitrogen (0.10% - 0.16%). The nitrogen acts as an interstitial solid-solution strengthener, restoring the yield strength back up to the levels of standard B8M (316) while maintaining full weldability and elite resistance to pitting corrosion.

What is the difference between Grade B8MLN and B8MLNA?

Grade B8MLN (Class 1) is carbide solution treated before the final machining and threading processes. Grade B8MLNA (Class 1A) is carbide solution treated in the finished condition. Solution treating the completely formed bolt removes any residual stresses generated during manufacturing. This guarantees maximum resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and maintains a strict 90 HRB maximum hardness limit, whereas B8MLN is allowed up to 96 HRB.

Yes, the MTC document strictly states that the material has been verified as free from radioactive contamination and has undergone a 100% visual inspection to ensure it is completely free from manufacturing defects before dispatch.
