Why does B8ML4CuN have such a high Copper content (4% - 5%)?

While Molybdenum provides excellent resistance to localized pitting in chloride environments, it does not fully protect against strong reducing acids. The massive 4.00% - 5.00% addition of Copper in UNS S31730 (often compared to proprietary alloys like 317CU) fundamentally alters the alloy's behavior, making it uniquely resistant to aggressive sulfuric, phosphoric, and acetic acid environments commonly found in the chemical processing industry.

What is the difference between Grade B8ML4CuN and B8ML4CuNA?

Grade B8ML4CuN (Class 1) is carbide solution treated before the final machining and threading processes. Grade B8ML4CuNA (Class 1A) is carbide solution treated in the finished condition. Treating the completely formed bolt removes residual stresses generated during manufacturing. This guarantees maximum resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and maintains a strict 90 HRB maximum hardness limit, whereas B8ML4CuN is allowed up to 96 HRB.

Yes, the MTC document strictly states that the material has been verified as free from radioactive contamination and has undergone a 100% visual inspection to ensure it is completely free from manufacturing defects before dispatch.
