While Grade 2 is commercially pure and offers excellent corrosion resistance, it lacks high mechanical strength. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is heavily alloyed with Aluminum and Vanadium, giving it a tensile strength that is nearly double that of Grade 2. Grade 5 is required for aerospace structural components, engine parts, and high-stress fasteners where weight saving and extreme strength are critical.
Titanium exists in two crystallographic forms: alpha and beta. In Ti-6Al-4V, Aluminum (~6%) acts as an alpha-phase stabilizer, increasing the alloy's strength at high temperatures. Vanadium (~4%) acts as a beta-phase stabilizer, improving ductility and allowing the material to be heat treated. Together, they create an alpha-beta alloy with a phenomenal strength-to-weight ratio.
Yes, the document strictly states that the material is free from radioactive contamination and undergoes a 100% visual inspection to ensure it is free from defects.
