  • 1. Can I use a standard 316 stainless nut on an A193 B8M bolt?
    It is highly discouraged in critical pressure applications. Engineers must pair A193 B8M fasteners exclusively with ASTM A194 Grade 8M heavy hex nuts. A random 316 nut may not have been manufactured, tested, or dimensioned to withstand the specific compressive loads of pressure vessel codes.
  • 2. What is the difference between B8M Class 1 and B8M Class 2?
    Class 1 is fully annealed, offering maximum corrosion resistance and high ductility, but lower yield strength (30 ksi).
