Note: Heavy hex nuts provide a significantly larger bearing surface to distribute massive clamping loads and prevent crush damage to parent materials.
■ Nut-Specific Technical Specifications
| Material |
Inconel 600 (Nickel-Chromium-Iron Solid-Solution Alloy) |
| Manufacturing Standards |
- ASTM F467 (Standard Specification for Nonferrous Nuts)
- ASME B18.2.2 (Heavy Hex Nuts)
- DIN 934 / ISO 4032 (Metric Hex Nuts)
|
| Galling & Lubrication |
Inconel 600 nuts are highly susceptible to cold-welding (galling) when mated with Inconel bolts. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) lubricants are strictly required. For ultra-high vacuum or dry environments, silver-plated nuts are utilized as a solid-state boundary lubricant. |
| High-Temperature Locking |
Standard nylon-insert lock nuts melt at 350°F (176°C) and are prohibited. Inconel 600 all-metal lock nuts (friction-fit or elliptical top-lock) must be specified for vibration resistance at extreme temperatures. |
| Environmental Resistance |
Virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking (SCC). Resists scaling and oxidation up to 2000°F (1095°C). |
