What's Inside This C11000 ETP Copper MTC

This sample mill test certificate details the specific physical and mechanical testing parameters required for high-conductivity copper fasteners manufactured to ASTM F468 specifications, commonly used in electrical busbars, switchgears, and grounding systems.

  • Full Traceability: Certified with TC No.: S182/26-XX and mapped to ASTM F468 for nonferrous bolting materials.
  • 99.9% Purity Chemistry: Explicitly verifies the primary requirement for Electrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP) copper: a minimum of 99.90% Copper (including Silver), ensuring uncompromised electrical and thermal performance.
  • Electrical Conductivity Testing: Unlike steel MTCs, this document specifically logs electrical conductivity in % IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard), guaranteeing performance for high-current applications.
  • Cold-Drawn Temper Strength: Confirms the material was supplied in a cold-worked state (e.g., Hard temper / H04) to provide the necessary tensile and yield strength required for mechanical fastening, which pure copper otherwise lacks.
  • Quality Compliance: 100% visual inspection and precision dimensional accuracy checks executed to ASME B18.2.1 standards.

Technical FAQs — UNS C11000 ETP Copper MTC

What does ETP stand for in UNS C11000?

ETP stands for Electrolytic Tough Pitch. It is the most common and widely used copper grade for electrical applications. It is refined electrolytically to a minimum of 99.90% purity, intentionally leaving a tiny amount of oxygen (typically 0.02% to 0.04%) which improves its castability and conductivity by tying up trace impurities.

Why is Electrical Conductivity (% IACS) listed on a fastener MTC?

Copper fasteners are rarely chosen primarily for mechanical strength; they are chosen because they must act as conductive bridges in high-current electrical busbars, switchgears, and grounding grids. Logging the % IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) guarantees the engineer that the fastener will not create a high-resistance bottleneck that could cause overheating in the circuit.

Can these C11000 ETP Copper fasteners be welded or brazed?

Welding or high-temperature brazing of C11000 is not recommended. Because ETP copper contains residual oxygen, exposing it to hydrogen gas at high temperatures (as found in welding flames) can cause the hydrogen to react with the oxygen, forming steam pockets inside the metal. This leads to "hydrogen embrittlement" and cracking. If welding is required, Oxygen-Free Copper (OFHC, UNS C10200) should be specified instead.
