Why use Pure Tantalum for fasteners instead of Titanium or Hastelloy?

Tantalum possesses a unique, glass-like resistance to chemical attack. While Titanium and Hastelloy are excellent, Pure Tantalum (R05200) is virtually immune to most acids, including hydrochloric, nitric, and sulfuric acids at temperatures below 150°C. It is typically specified for the absolute most corrosive environments in chemical processing where other superalloys would rapidly fail.

Why are Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Hydrogen levels strictly tracked?

Tantalum is a highly reactive refractory metal at elevated temperatures. If it absorbs trace gases like Oxygen, Nitrogen, or Hydrogen during processing or heat treatment, the metal suffers from severe interstitial embrittlement, losing its ductility and becoming prone to sudden cracking. Strict control of these elements on the MTC ensures the fasteners remain tough and reliable.
