What's Inside This Class 14.9 MTC

This sample MTC highlights the rigorous metallurgical standards required for the 14.9 property class. These fasteners are engineered for extreme loading scenarios where standard 12.9 grade fasteners would be inadequate.

  • Full Traceability: Certified with TC No.: S450/26-XX, mapped to proprietary high-strength specifications for aerospace and performance engineering.
  • Micro-Alloyed Chemistry: Verifies the use of advanced martensitic steels (e.g., 40CrNiMo) with extremely low impurity levels to prevent micro-cracking under ultra-high stress.
  • Hydrogen De-embrittlement (HDE): Explicitly logs the mandatory post-treatment baking cycle, essential for maintaining toughness at 1400 MPa tensile strength.
  • Mechanical Performance: Detailed logs conforming to class 14.9 requirements: Tensile Strength (Min 1400 MPa), Yield Strength (Min 1260 MPa), and Hardness (44 - 50 HRC).
  • Quality Compliance: 100% visual inspection and full batch hardness mapping to ensure zero-defect conformance for mission-critical applications.

Technical FAQs — Class 14.9 Fasteners

Why is hydrogen embrittlement such a critical concern at this strength?

When steel reaches 1400 MPa tensile strength, it is essentially "operating at its limit." Any hydrogen atoms trapped in the molecular structure can migrate to stress-concentrated areas, causing internal pressure that shatters the bonds between iron atoms. This results in the bolt snapping without warning. At the 14.9 grade level, stringent post-plating baking processes are mandatory to "drive out" this hydrogen.

How does Class 14.9 compare to the standard Class 12.9?

Class 12.9 is a high-strength fastener, while 14.9 is an ultra-high-strength fastener. Moving from 12.9 to 14.9 allows designers to use smaller diameter bolts to carry the same structural load—a key benefit in modern aerospace and high-performance automotive designs where weight reduction is as important as raw strength.

Can these bolts be used in any environment?

No. Because of their extreme hardness (44-50 HRC), these fasteners are vulnerable to Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) if exposed to certain chemicals, particularly acidic environments or high-temperature steam. They are intended for dry, controlled, high-stress environments rather than corrosive or chemically active ones.
