Product Type
The physical fastener itself — bolt, nut, washer, screw, stud, anchor, rivet. Usually the first thing you decide: what part do I actually need?
Standard
A published spec — ASTM, ASME, DIN, ISO, SAE, BS — that fixes the material, strength, dimensions and testing a fastener must meet. E.g. ASTM A193 covers alloy/stainless bolting for high-temperature service.
Material / Grade
The metal a fastener is made from (stainless, alloy steel, duplex, nickel alloy, titanium…) and the specific Grade within it — a sub-class with its own strength and chemistry, e.g. Grade B7 or SS 316.
Dimension
The physical size — diameter, length, head size, thread pitch — almost always tied to one specific standard, e.g. DIN 931 bolt dimensions or ASME B18.2.1.
Thread
The screw-thread form and series — Metric, UNC/UNF, NPT pipe threads — that determines which nut or tapped hole the fastener will mate with.
Technical Reference
Supporting engineering data: mechanical properties, torque values, coatings, testing methods, and certificates like the MTC (Mill Test Certificate).
How it fits together: a Standard sets the rules → a Material / Grade meets those rules → a Dimension gives it size → a Thread lets it mate with its nut. Most real questions — “what grade bolt do I need for high-pressure service?” — touch two or three of these at once, so use the search box or the paths above to jump straight in.
