Both are martensitic 410 stainless steel. Grade B6 is tempered at a minimum of 649°C (1200°F) and allows a maximum hardness of 35 HRC, yielding a stronger but harder fastener. Grade B6X is designed specifically for sour gas environments (NACE compliance). It requires a lower minimum tempering temperature of 593°C (1100°F) and enforces a strict maximum hardness of 26 HRC. This controlled lower hardness drastically reduces the risk of hydrogen embrittlement and sulfide stress cracking.
Type 410 is a martensitic stainless steel with approximately 12% chromium. It provides basic corrosion resistance against mild atmospheres, fresh water, and mild chemicals. However, it is significantly less corrosion-resistant than austenitic grades (like 304 or 316). It is chosen primarily for applications requiring high mechanical strength combined with moderate corrosion resistance, typically in petrochemical settings.
Yes, the MTC document strictly states that the material has been verified as free from radioactive contamination and has undergone a 100% visual inspection to ensure it is completely free from manufacturing defects before dispatch.
