Grade B8CLNCuB (UNS S34752) takes the highly stable, high-strength B8CLN matrix and supercharges it for severe industrial conditions. The Copper addition improves resistance to reducing acidic environments (like sulfuric acid). More importantly, the trace addition of Boron (typically 0.001% - 0.010%) radically improves the alloy's hot-workability during forging and significantly increases its high-temperature creep rupture strength in critical pressure vessel applications.
Grade B8CLNCuB (Class 1) is carbide solution treated before the final machining and threading processes. Grade B8CLNCuBA (Class 1A) is carbide solution treated in the finished condition. Solution treating the completely formed bolt removes residual stresses generated during cold working or threading. This guarantees maximum resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and maintains a strict 90 HRB maximum hardness limit, whereas B8CLNCuB is allowed up to 96 HRB.
Yes, the MTC document strictly states that the material has been verified as free from radioactive contamination and has undergone a 100% visual inspection to ensure it is completely free from manufacturing defects before dispatch.
