Grade B8P/B8PA is formulated with a higher nickel content (10.50% - 13.00%) compared to standard 304. This specific chemistry significantly decreases the rate at which the material hardens when it is cold-worked. It is the preferred choice when manufacturing fasteners that require severe cold heading, deep drawing, or spinning, as it allows for extreme deformation without cracking or requiring costly intermediate annealing stages.
Grade B8P (Class 1) is carbide solution treated prior to the final forming and threading processes. Grade B8PA (Class 1A) is carbide solution treated in the finished condition. Because 305 is specifically used for heavy cold-working, performing the solution anneal on the completely finished fastener relieves all internal stresses generated during manufacturing, ensuring maximum ductility and maintaining the strict 90 HRB maximum hardness.
