Grade 8P is manufactured from AISI Type 305 Austenitic Stainless Steel. While it belongs to the same 18/8 family as standard Type 304, it features a specifically elevated Nickel content (11.00% - 13.00%), which provides distinct manufacturing advantages while retaining excellent corrosion resistance.
Grade 8 (Type 304) is prone to rapid work-hardening when cold-formed. Grade 8P uses Type 305 stainless steel; its higher nickel content significantly decreases the work-hardening rate. This allows the material to undergo severe cold-heading, deep drawing, and spinning during the nut manufacturing process without the risk of cracking or the need for costly intermediate annealing stages.
The corrosion resistance of Grade 8P (Type 305) is fundamentally similar to, and in some chemical environments slightly better than, standard Grade 8 (Type 304) due to the higher nickel content. It is an excellent choice for general chemical, architectural, and marine applications where complex, cold-formed fastener geometries are required.
