The addition of 2.00–3.00% Molybdenum is what fundamentally separates Alloy Group 2 (316) from Group 1 (304) stainless steel. This MTC validates the exact Molybdenum percentage, ensuring the bolts possess enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich environments like marine offshore structural components and de-icing salt exposure.
The chemistry section shows a maximum Carbon content below 0.030% (the "L" requirement), while the mechanical properties meet the higher tensile and yield strength requirements of standard 316. This means the fasteners are "Dual Certified," offering both the structural strength of 316 and the superior weldability/carbide precipitation resistance of 316L.
ASTM F593 bolts are typically supplied in Condition CW (Cold Worked). Unlike the fully annealed condition (Condition A), the cold working process significantly increases the mechanical strength of the bolts, allowing them to achieve the higher minimum tensile (655 MPa) and yield (450 MPa) strengths documented in the mechanical properties table.
