Engineering Note: In high-pressure petrochemical and industrial applications, Heavy Hex Nuts are preferred over standard hex nuts. Their wider geometry provides a massive bearing footprint to distribute extreme clamping loads across the flange face.

■ Nut-Specific Technical Specifications
| Material & Standard |
Inconel 625 (UNS N06625 / W.Nr. 2.4856). Strictly governed by ASTM F467 (Standard Specification for Nonferrous Nuts for General Use). |
| Mechanical Integrity |
- Minimum Proof Stress: 60,000 psi (60 ksi) without stripping internal threads.
- Hardness Bandwidth: 85 HRB to 35 HRC.
|
| Machining & Threading |
Due to rapid work-hardening and poor thermal conductivity:
- CNC Thread Milling is preferred over traditional tapping for superior chip evacuation.
- Requires TiAlN or AlTiN coated carbide tooling.
- Continuous high-pressure coolant (>500 PSI) and strict spindle speeds (30-50 SFM) are required.
|
| Tribology & Galling Prevention |
Immense contact pressure can shear the protective oxide layer, causing severe cold-welding (thread galling). Mandatory Lubrication: Nuts must never be installed dry. Use high-solids anti-seize (MoS2 or nickel-based paste). Utilize slow, steady, continuous-motion torqueing (no high-speed pneumatic impact wrenches). |
