What's Inside This C71500 MTC Certificate

This sample mill test certificate highlights the critical testing parameters for UNS C71500 (Copper-Nickel 70/30) fasteners. This alloy is the premier choice for extreme marine environments, offering superior strength and enhanced resistance to seawater corrosion and impingement compared to the 90/10 (C70600) variant.

  • Full Traceability: Certified with TC No.: S378/26-XX and mapped to ASTM F468 and ASTM B151 specifications for high-strength nonferrous bolting.
  • 70/30 Copper-Nickel Chemistry: Explicitly verifies the precise alloying: ~70% Copper and ~30% Nickel (Ni), complemented by mandatory Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) additions which are crucial for establishing the highly stable protective film against saltwater degradation.
  • Enhanced Erosion Resistance: With its higher Nickel content, C71500 is specifically chosen for offshore oil/gas and subsea systems where seawater flows at high velocities, causing severe erosion on standard alloys.
  • High Structural Strength: Supplied in cold-worked tempers to maximize tensile and yield properties, ensuring the bolting can sustain the high-load demands of marine structural assemblies.
  • Quality Compliance: 100% visual inspection and precision dimensional checks executed to ASME B18.2.1 standards. Material is characterized by being completely non-magnetic.

Technical FAQs — UNS C71500 Cupro-Nickel MTC

Why choose C71500 (70/30) over C70600 (90/10)?

While both are excellent marine alloys, C71500 contains a higher percentage of Nickel (30% vs 10%). This increase in Nickel translates directly into higher mechanical strength and better resistance to impingement corrosion, where high-velocity seawater currents physically erode the fastener's surface. C71500 is the choice for more extreme, high-flow, or turbulent marine environments.

How does Iron (Fe) addition function in C71500?

The addition of Iron is what allows the Cupro-Nickel alloy to form a highly adherent and self-healing protective layer on its surface. Without this Iron, the protective film would be easily washed away by turbulent seawater. C71500 is specifically balanced to optimize this film in harsh, high-velocity marine conditions.

Is C71500 magnetic?

No. UNS C71500 is completely non-magnetic. Like other high-performance Cupro-Nickel alloys, it is chosen for naval applications—such as submarine hulls or shipboard sensors—where the elimination of magnetic interference is as important as the need to resist decades of saltwater exposure.
