FF-S-200 — Setscrews: Hexagon & Spline Socket, Headless
FF-S-200 covers headless setscrews with hexagon or spline socket drives, used to locate machine parts relative to one another, either permanently or temporarily. Together with FF-S-210, it superseded the earlier consolidated setscrew specification FF-S-103.

Overview
FF-S-200 covers headless setscrews driven by an internal hexagon or spline socket, intended to locate machine parts relative to each other — such as securing a collar, pulley, or gear to a shaft — either permanently or temporarily, without a protruding head that could interfere with rotating or moving assemblies.
The specification recommends cup point setscrews (Style 4) be used wherever possible, since the sharp circular edge of the cup bites into the mating shaft for strong resistance to slipping. For hardened shafts, or where marring from a cup point would be objectionable, flat or half-dog point styles (1 or 6) are recommended instead; other styles (2, 3, or 5) are reserved for cases where the preferred styles are impractical.
- FF-S-200 and its companion FF-S-210 (square head and slotted headless setscrews) jointly superseded the earlier, single, consolidated FF-S-103 setscrew specification.
- Dimensional and drive geometry draws from ASME B18.3, the same document referenced by FF-S-86 for socket cap screws.
Point Style Guide
FF-S-200 recommends specific point styles for different applications.
FF-S-200 (socket-drive) and FF-S-210 (square head and slotted headless) together replaced the earlier consolidated setscrew specification, FF-S-103.
FF-S-200 — Frequently Asked Questions
Which point style should I use for a general setscrew application?
Cup point (Style 4) is recommended wherever practical for its strong holding power. Use flat or half-dog points for hardened shafts or where marring is a concern, and other styles only when those aren't practical.
What's the difference between FF-S-200 and FF-S-210?
FF-S-200 covers headless setscrews with an internal hexagon or spline socket drive. FF-S-210 covers square-head setscrews and slotted headless setscrews (inch and metric) instead.
